Student Awards Criteria
The following outlines the criteria which will be applied in selecting the winner for the Student Awards in which there are two categories:
- Leader in Innovation Excellence - Under-graduate
- Leader in Innovation Excellence - Post- graduate
The Leader in Innovation Excellence for both the under-graduate and post-graduate awards will be made to an engineering or science student, or team of students who have submitted the best entry consisting of a technical project, or area of research, undertaken by the student(s) during their current or recent studies (within the last 2 years).
If the work has been entirely performed by one applicant, extra credit will be given.
Eligible submissions for the under-graduate award must be from a student who is currently undertaking an under-graduate degree in engineering or science or has completed an under-graduate qualification within the past 12 months as at the submission close date.
Eligible submissions for the post-graduate award must be from a student who holds an existing under-graduate degree in engineering or science and who is pursuing research for either a Master’s Degree or a PhD, or has completed a post-graduate qualification within the past 12 months as at the submission close date.
The enry must be based on the following elements:
- Grounds – the basic evidence that the author used to make their claim. This will often be the results of any experiments or drawings produced;
- Warrant – this is the logic that links the grounds to the claim;
- Outcomes - functionality or proposed commercial outcomes of the work undertaken;
- Claim – this is the conclusion that the author puts forward in their submission.
A statement from the student’s academic supervisor or head of department is required, verifying that the work being submitted is that of the student(s).
