Aries Rail – Site tour of Australia’s largest road-rail vehicle manufacturer (POSTPONED - NEW DATE TBC)

Aries Rail is Australia’s largest manufacturer of road-rail vehicles with our vehicles operating on every rail network in the country from the vast mine networks in WA’s Pilbara to preserved steam railways in Tasmania. Their application presents a number of unique challenges as the vehicle has to comply with both on-road and on-rail requirements. Additionally the vehicle manufacturer never intended it to work in this way so its electronic and safety systems often present them with unexpected challenges. With 40 years experience as well as strong connections to many vehicle manufacturers including MAN, Mercedes and Volvo , they often need to leverage these connections to overcome the challenges of operating the vehicle in a way they the manufacturer never intended. Even when the vehicle is operating as a road vehicle they have multiple challenges resulting from hanging rail wheels and large structures on the front and rear. This include pedestrian safety, airbag compatibility, road axle capacity limitations, vehicle weight limitations etc.

The event will include a tour of their workshop so attendees can see what they have in progress, as well as a brief presentation outlining the history of the company, the history of road-rail vehicles, the typical challenges that we face and how we overcome them. In addition, the presentation will include some background on where they see things going in the future with autonomous vehicles driving themselves on-rail, collision avoidance systems, further integration with the vehicle etc.

Light refreshments will be included for guests.
