Swedish company, Autoliv – which has representation in 25 countries – is accelerating its move into motorcycle safety with the launch of two new rider protection systems – an integrated scooter airbag designed in conjunction with Yamaha Motor Company and its first complete wearable airbag vest developed with RS Taichi.

The first project is a co-developed airbag system for Yamaha’s new Tricity 300 commuter scooter, marking a significant step in bringing advanced safety technology beyond premium motorcycles and into mainstream urban mobility.

The airbag is integrated into the scooter’s front panel and is designed to protect riders during frontal collisions by absorbing kinetic energy while maintaining vehicle balance and preserving storage space. The system has undergone advanced simulation and full-scale crash testing to meet development standards. The updated Tricity 300 is expected to reach the market in the first half of 2026.

Autoliv President and CEO Mikael Bratt said the collaboration represented an important move beyond the company’s traditional automotive safety business.

“It also marks a significant advancement in safeguarding motorcyclists, who traditionally have far less protection than occupants in light vehicles,” Bratt said.

At the same time, Autoliv has introduced its first fully developed wearable protection system – the RS Taichi Airbag Vest T-SABE.

Unlike previous products where Autoliv supplied only components, this vest is the company’s first end-to-end wearable airbag solution, engineered from concept through full system validation. The scalable platform can be adapted across multiple garment designs and riding styles.

The vest was launched at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show in March and reflects Autoliv’s broader strategy to diversify beyond airbags, seatbelts and steering wheels for passenger vehicles.
