The SAE-A offers graded membership, where new applicants will be assigned a grade based on skills, qualifications and experience.

Fellow [F SAE-A]
Fellow grade is for members who have experience in leading major engineering developments or activities, or have had an extensive career in positions of responsibility in engineering.

Member [M SAE-A]
Member grade is for professionals with a degree or diploma in the mobility industry, and who have been practicing for a minimum of 5 years.

Associate Member [AM SAE-A]
Associate Member grade is for new engineers or technicians holding an engineering, science or mechanical degree or diploma.

Associate Member - T [AMT SAE-A]Associate Member-T grade is for trade and technically qualified professionals with TAFE or equivalent certificate qualifications.

Affiliate [AFF SAE-A] Ungraded Membership
For persons engaged or interested in mobility engineering, who do not wish to be graded. Affiliates are unable to vote, be involved in standards development, or nominated for chair or treasurer in any division.

Student [S SAE-A]
Student grade is for applicants who are engaged in full time courses of study, including apprenticeships. This grade is required for students wishing to compete in the Formula SAE-A competition.
