Founded in 1927, and affiliated with SAE International, the Society promotes   excellence in automotive engineering through professional development, education, conferences and networking activities. SAE-A President Bill Malkoutzis acknowledged the contribution of previous Executive Director Max Chanter, who is retiring.

Bill Malkoutzis said an exhaustive search secured a leader who will bring innovative ideas and diverse industry experience to the role. “Geoff has been active in SAE-A programs for many years, particularly the international Formula SAE-Australasia education competition for engineering students hosted by the Society at the end of every year,’ he said.

“Geoff’s close links with the universities, their engineering students and the companies that employ them, will bring a fresh and vibrant approach to the Society’s programs,” said Bill Malkoutzis.

Geoff Pearson’s first experiences with the automotive world were part of life on his father’s farm where he spent many hours tinkering in the machinery shed. His early working years were in the motorcycle industry before moving into engineering for vehicle manufacturing. His studies then led him into academia, where he lectured and became a Formula SAE-A faculty advisor.

“SAE-A has a wonderfully diverse membership spanning the full spectrum of automotive engineering. We have experts in engine development, chassis design, aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, mechanical and body repair, crash investigation, insurance assessment – the list seems endless,” said Geoff Pearson.

“While senior members bring wisdom and many years engineering experience to the table, our young members share enthusiasm to learn and fluency in today’s communication technologies. At National Office, our goal will be to continue to create learning opportunities for members.

“In this challenging global automotive market, we will support those members dedicated to sustaining a viable automotive manufacturing industry in Australia. And we will continue to service members committed to repairing and maintaining the nation’s vehicle fleet.

“As long as we engineer things, as long as we have a desire to learn, and as long as we have passion for things automotive, there will be a place for SAE-A,” he said.
